 A Happy New Year for this 2017
John 14:27 New International Version (NIV) "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." How do we find Peace in this New Year 2017 when we are so near the Coming of our Lord Jesus. There is so much lack of peace in the world. Bonnie Lou and I have been going through a hard time with her two times in ER and 12 days in the hospital with problems from her two by-pass and open heart surgery 7 + years ago which is failing now. Every two months, the doctors have been taking liquid off of the lower part of her lungs. Yet Jesus has given us peace through all of this that his word is true, from Psalms 57:7. My heart is fixed, O God, my heart is fixed: I will sing and give praise. Albert Barnes states that not only is our heart fixed, but it is fixed on Him and we will give praise-for His word is fixed on Jesus and we will give Him praise. So many times I have gotten my attention on the situation or problem instead of keeping my eyes on Jesus. Jesus has answered our prayers and Bonnie Lou was released from the hospital to enjoy our 66th Wedding Anniversary on October 16th and Bonnie Lou's 89th Birthday on December 19th. We are blessed that our son Brent and his family came for Christmas, that we have our daughter Brenda coming home to take care of us with her daughter Stephanie and daughter Lily. Our son Brad is living with us and Bryan and Shirley are pastoring Honolulu Assembly here in Hawaii. Our God is so good. Our Lord has always been with us in our entire ministry with peace. joy, and protection. Last newsletter I told you the story of the gangster who wanted to get rid of me. There were several times he tried to do this. One day, I was called by the police to go over to his home because he was beating his wife. I said, I am not going without the police being there with me. When I arrived at his home, there were three squad cars there. I was asked to go into the house and settle this problem. One of the policemen went in with me and when we came into the room there was another policeman already there. I said to the man, why are you doing this to you wife? He grabbed the policeman's gun and said I am going to kill you. I said that you cannot do this because I am protected by Jesus and if you did, I know that I would be with Jesus. Do you know where you are going when you die? The policeman quickly grabbed the gun from him, and the ordeal was over. Just before we left the Island of Kauai to pastor at Faith Assembly of Oahu, our neighbor on Kauai asked us to pray over his new, very large boat because it has a curse on it. I said, get your wife, and we all climbed into the boat and talked about Jesus. Both of them prayed the sinners prayer and accepted Jesus as their personal Saviour. I prayed over the boat that this curse be broken. The next day on a Sunday morning, they went fishing. When we got home from church that afternoon, there was a knock at our kitchen door and this man had a very large piece of fish in his hand. He said Pastor Bill, the curse has been broken off my boat! Pastor, I lost the large fish but I caught this one. He turned my attention to the garage door where there was the yellow fin tuna with its nose on the ground and the tail was above the garage door! He left me shouting, don't lay a hand on him, this is a man of God! My eye caught the eye of the gangster who happened to be nearby, who also heard the man's proclamation and he never tried to harm us again. Praise the Lord, he gave his heart to Christ before he died of cancer. This New Year we all must place Jesus first in our lives so we have his perfect PEACE.  Pastor Bill Ashpole

Feeding the spirit, feeding the body ~ Enjoy this month's recipe: BEAN & CORN SALSA 
- 1 (15.5oz) can black beans, rinsed & drained
- 1 (15.5oz) can black eye peas, rinsed & drained (can sub 2 cans of black beans & omit the black eyes)
- 1 (14.5oz) can diced tomatoes with green chiles, drained
- 2 cups frozen corn kernels, thawed
- 1 medium red onion, minced
- 4 jalapeno peppers, seeded & chopped small (leave in the seeds if you like it spicy)
- 1 cup Italian salad dressing
- 1 bunch of cilantro, chopped
